  • When I entered college my wardrobe changed. I used to dress up pretty boyish, I like wearing sneakers and rubber shoes. But then it all changed; I started wearing dolls shoes, sandals and heels. I’m not a fan of dresses, skirts back then. You couldn’t even let me wear sleeveless tops. I always wear cover ups, or just wear a jersey jacket or loose shirts. I may not be a fan of dresses and skirts back then but you couldn’t even let me wear pants. As far as I remember maybe 4 years ago I only own 2 pairs of pants. You could find different kinds and colors of shorts inside my closet. But you wouldn’t find any girly garments, not at all.

When I entered college, I somewhat adopted how my sister dress up. I started buying heels instead of sneakers, I started buying doll shoes’ instead of rubber shoes. I started buying dresses and skirts instead of shorts and jersey jackets, I started buying sleeveless tops or blouses instead of plain t-shirts. I became really girly that I myself was shocked because of my wardrobe change. But hey! I liked it too!

But not just that. I was a fan of skirts, short shorts, tube dresses. I don’t own any of those that actually would go beyond my knees. To the point my guy friends would tell me to pull my dress or skirt down. I do still wear muscle tees but I don’t pair it with sneakers I still pair it with doll shoes or sandals to reveal the girly side of me. But then it changed again, well it didn’t I just somehow tried out something new. I started wearing maxi skirts and dresses and palazzo pants. I don’t usually wear them before because I think I look really small. But I loved them so it became one of the garments I usually wear.

We had this “MAKE OVER PROJECT” where my partner would dress me up and me; her partner would dress her up as well. This was her output:

    Before                                                                                   After

Even though my college bestfriend was my partner in this project, still she didn’t know how I dress back in high schoo. But when she let me wore her clothes my high school days came back to me. Especially on how I dress myself. I can really say that I like what she let me wore. Yes I wear sneakers before but I have never wore sneakers of dark color. So it was still something new to me. As I was saying earlier I don’t own any clothes that would go beyond my knees, it was always shorter. This dress may be knee length but also something I have never worn. She then added a denim polo wrapped around my waist. I was planning to wear something like this before but I don’t know how to make it look good since I have never tried it as well. Over all I clearly like the meke over she did.
This make over project with Ingrid Borja taught me how to eplore and not just limit myself with what I want instaed I should go beyond and see what else I can do and try out something new that will still look like me but in a different way.

  • After talking about Jeffrey Rogador 3 weeks ago, I am now going to tell you about one of the Filipino Fashion Designer who inspired me a lot. He’s one of my favorites, I can tell. I even dream about working for him because by that I can learn a lot of things since he is also I Benildean I think or I’m assuming that we can get a long, yes I’m dreaming too much. But hey! Why settle for less? But don’t ask for more!

Enough about that, now I’m going to show you the works of this fashion designer that was indeed my favorites!

First, when I saw the first photo I got really inspired on how he was able to create the corsette type, the details was really good and at first I didn’t know that it was partnered with a skirt that will transform into a long gown. This was really good well atleast for me cause I know we all have different tastes. Actually he using that fur skirt made me love fur fabrics but still I can’t find the perfect store where I can buy it. So if you guys know where I buy something like that, just comment below! It will be much appreciated.

The 2nd design that I’m going to show is the dress that he made for Julia Barretto. It as simple but really elegant. The bead work was really good, and I didn’t even knew that the details will still be that “wow” at the back. The dress was fully beaded which I admire the most because I have never seen a gown that was fully beaded but still didn’t look “too much” that it doesn’t look good anymore, he managed to make the gown look good with all that details.

The 3rd design that I’m going to show is design for Ms.Universe …… if he was chosen to design that Mj Lastimosa’s going to wear he was inspired by the ati-atihan festival. This look was a little festive but was a bit modern as well. I didn’t know he could pull off a design as pretty as this. And I can say that this would be pretty if he was able to make it as an actual gown.

The 4th design that I’m going to show you is the gown that he made for Ms.Marina Benapayo. As for me yes I’m a fan of gowns. But not of a huge balloon gowns, but this did really caught my eye because when I first saw it, it made me remember one Disney Princess, do you guys know who’s the Disney Princess in my mind? Well… the color of the gown gives out a big clue! BELL from beauty and the beast! I think she attended a ball wearing this gown but I’m not really sure. Haha!

The 5th and last design that I’m going to show is a very simply yet elegant gown that he made. It’s a bit revealing. Some of the girls out there may be shy to pull this off, but hey! Just be confident like this girl on the photo and you’ll definitely rock this gown! Going back, I really liked how he executed the embroided bust area of this gown. It may be look to “open” but the details made it look classy and sophisticated.

So I just showed you my top 5 favorites of this Filipino Fashion Designer. Some of you may also like his designs and now curious who this designer is. But I know some of you already y know who this designer is. If you’re into fashion and know some Filipino Designers this would be really easy for you and very obvious.

The person behind this design is none other than the great Rajo Laurel!

  • Jeffery Rogador is a well known Filipino fashion designer, you can see his works in Philippine Fashion Week, he also have different events showcasing his talent.

One of his works that really struck me was his collection for Philippine Fashion Week Holiday 2015. (here are some photos from his collection) His collection was one of a kind. Its an RTW collection which; he usually does. His collection is very simple but still its an eye catching show. He really did showed the audience that his works "represent" the Philippines, it may not be be typical Barong (for men) and Filipiniana (for women) clothes but instead he decided to print different places in Metro Manila. I have never seen any designer who had the same idea and manage to made it as good as what Rogador did. It didn't look weird but the words made it more interesting. His silhouettes are simple but the color pallet was very cohesive that made his whole collection more attractive. Its not a typical design but as a Filipino many people could wear this. He also made a collaboration for FnH.

Jerry Rogador also also made a coat and slax that was full of places in Metro Manila. He made the outfit extraordinary. Some Designer would just create statement shirts but what jeffery did he made it look like an street art but without the pictures.

Seeing his whole collection made me think about the Jeepney that we have or let me say the only country that owns/have a Jeepney. as for me I only learned riding the Jeepney this college, maybe thats why I was able to appreciate his work; I got the chance to experience riding it from one place to another. Every place here in Metro Manila is accessible through jeepnies, I can't clarify to you that his inspiration was the Jeepney itself, as a Fashion Design student I can see that it is one of his inspiration, firstly because The Philippines is the only country that owns a Jeepney, Secondly he wanted to showcase The Philippines not through our basic Filipiniana and Barong next he wanted to show how creative a Filipino Designer can be, how we Filipino's can think outside the box and create clothes that are out of the ordinary and he is indeed proud to be a Filipino.
